The Swiss market imposes requirements that an international solution usually lacks — it is built for other legal systems. Buy from abroad and you notice at the year-end close, in the VAT filing or with the first payroll declaration. These are the points that decide in this category:

Hospitality agreementThe national collective agreement for hospitality applies to virtually every business in the industry and sets minimum wage, thirteenth month, holidays and the treatment of overtime. It too is generally binding and therefore not negotiable.
TipsA voluntary tip is not VAT-liable turnover, but it belongs in the till reconciliation, and a business that passes it on to staff must document the distribution per person. With card payment it moves from a cash question to an accounting entry.
Staff mealsIf a business feeds its staff, that is payment in kind. The rates in the tax administration’s leaflet N2 — per meal and per day — belong on the payslip and in the social-insurance base, and the same meal must be recorded on the kitchen side for VAT.
