camt.053
camt.053 is the ISO 20022 message by which a bank delivers the account statement for a period in structured form; it is the file an automatic bank reconciliation in accounting software builds on.
Definition
Alongside camt.053 stand two relatives: camt.052 for the intraday position and camt.054 for batch entries with their details, that is credit advices with references. For allocating receivables, camt.054 is often the more important file.
The advantage over a PDF statement is the structure: every movement carries date, amount, currency, counterparty and, where present, the QR reference. Reconciliation thereby becomes arithmetic rather than searching.
What the software must be able to do
Check which of the three message types the software can read, whether it fetches them automatically over a bank interface or expects a file, and whether unallocatable payments land in a list instead of sitting there quietly.
