QR-IBAN
The QR-IBAN is a special IBAN that requires and enables a QR-bill with a structured reference; in place of the bank identification it carries an identifier from the range 30000 to 31999 and is thereby distinguishable from a normal IBAN.
Definition
The difference is not cosmetic: whoever uses a QR-IBAN must supply a QR reference, and the bank validates it. The payment therefore comes back with an identifier that maps unambiguously to one invoice — that is the basis of automatic bank reconciliation.
With a normal IBAN the message field is free instead of the reference, or the Creditor Reference under ISO 11649 is used. Both work, but the allocation is then less binding.

What the software must be able to do
Check whether the software knows both cases — QR-IBAN with QR reference and normal IBAN with or without a Creditor Reference — and whether it validates the combination. A QR-bill with a QR-IBAN but no reference is rejected by the bank.
