TWINT as a payment method
TWINT is Switzerland’s most widely used cashless payment by mobile phone; abroad it is unknown, which is why foreign till and shop systems usually connect it only through a payment service provider.
Definition
The difference is not technical but commercial: a direct connection costs TWINT’s fee, a connection via a provider adds that provider’s margin per transaction. On small amounts — and TWINT is used for small amounts — that matters.
For bookkeeping, reconciliation is added: the provider transfers in batches and net of fees, so a single incoming payment no longer corresponds to a single invoice. Without the provider’s settlement file it cannot be allocated.
What the software must be able to do
Ask whether TWINT is connected directly or runs through Saferpay, Datatrans or Stripe — and what that costs per transaction. Second check: can the software read the provider’s batch settlement and break it down into individual documents?
