Final invoice
The final invoice summarises the entire performance of a contract and deducts what has already been billed through advances and interim invoices.
Definition
It is the point where a contract is closed arithmetically — and the document against which a customer checks the work. In industries with quantity surveying or time-and-material reports it is therefore not a form but a compilation: items, quantities, variations, deductions.
The most frequent cause of dispute is not the amount but traceability: whoever cannot show which interim invoice was deducted at what amount and in which item ends up negotiating the whole invoice.
What the software must be able to do
The software has to carry the chain of quotation, interim invoice, advance and final invoice on the same contract and calculate the deductions itself. What the customer sees at the end should be checkable without a query.
