ISO 20022 / camt

ISO 20022 is the standard in which banks and software exchange payment data; the camt messages deliver the account statement and incoming payments in structured form, so the software can match them automatically against open invoices.

Definition

Three messages matter day to day: camt.052 for the intraday position, camt.053 for the statement of a period, and camt.054 for the details behind batch entries — for receivables camt.054 is the more important file, because that is where the references sit. In the other direction the payment order goes out as pain.001.

Automatic matching is the automation with the biggest time gain in the whole program: at a hundred payments a month it replaces half a working day. The precondition is the reference on the invoice — without it, allocation stays a search by amount and name.

What the software must be able to do

Clarify whether the bank is connected directly or a file has to be downloaded and imported every day, and which of the camt messages the software understands. Second check: do unallocatable payments land in a list, or do they sit there unnoticed?
